Bill 3,626, which deals with the regulation of fixed-odds betting, was included on the Agenda of the Senate’s Ordinary Deliberative Session next Wednesday (29).
The topic is listed as the second item on the agenda of the session, which is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Senators will discuss the matter in a single round.
The text of the project may undergo some changes during the vote in the Senate.
Among the most important changes is the reduction of the tax rate charged to companies, from 18% to 12% and the halving of the tax that will need to be paid by bettors, leaving it at 15%.
Another aspect that may change during the vote is the removal of online casinos from the legislation.
The text that was approved by the Chamber includes online games within the same rules as sports betting. However, more conservative parliamentarians intend to remove the section from the bill .
If there are changes to the text approved by the Senate, the bill must return to the Chamber of Deputies before being sent for presidential sanction.
Race for approval
The topic entered the plenary agenda a week after the bill was approved by the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE), after having also been approved by the Sports Committee (Cesp).
This and other projects that aim to increase government revenue for next year are a priority for parliamentarians, who need to close the 2024 budget.
On Wednesday, in addition to the betting project, senators will discuss the taxation of offshore investment funds.
The government expects that the regulation of betting will generate revenue of between R$700 million and R$2 billion next year.
If the bill is changed by senators and returns to the Chamber, it must be voted on before December 22, when the parliamentary recess begins.
Bill 3,626 was authored by the Presidency of the Republic and is being processed as a matter of urgency.
