Bill 3.626/23, which deals with the regulation of sports betting, was included on the agenda of the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE). The topic will be discussed next Tuesday (17).
If approved by the CAE, the project will still have to be evaluated by the Sports Commission (CESp) before being included on the Senate’s agenda.
The rapporteur of the project in the CAE, Senator Angelo Coronel, said in an interview with Aposta Legal Brasil that he intends for the regulation of sports betting to be approved this year, with the opening of company accreditation from 2024.
He also stated that he intends to work towards a reduction in the rate charged to bookmakers, currently at 18% of Growth Gaming Revenue (GGR).
“ I will work in the Senate to reduce the tax rate so that we can have more players. ” – Angelo Coronel
“If you have an increase in the number of players you will have an increase in revenue. It is better to lower the tax rate and have more players,” he declared.
Voting in the CAE
The matter was included on the agenda of the 45th Meeting of the Economic Affairs Committee this Tuesday (10). Last week, the matter took some important steps in the Senate, such as the definition of rapporteurs and the receipt of amendments.
The regulation of betting will be evaluated by the CAE, under the reporting of Senator Angelo Coronel, and by the CEsp, under the reporting of Senator Romário.
The CAE meeting next Tuesday will also address six other items, including a project that grants tax benefits to companies focused on technological innovation, research and development actions (PL 2,838/2020).
