The Sports Committee (Cespo) of the Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday (31), in an extraordinary deliberative meeting, bill 3,573/2023, which establishes measures to prevent the manipulation of sports results .

The bill, authored by Congressman Julio Cesar Ribeiro, includes in the General Sports Law measures to prevent and combat match-fixing , encouraging a partnership between the government and sports organizations to establish mechanisms for monitoring competitions.

“The federal public administration must monitor, together with sports organizations, and in case of suspicion of manipulation or attempted interference in the results of sports competitions, it may suggest the suspension of the championship, removal of athletes, application of fines and other effective measures in the case”, establishes the bill.

Congressman Paulo Fernando, rapporteur of the project at Cespo, presented an opinion in favor of approving the project, with a small reformulation of the text by means of a substitute.

The bill still needs to be approved by the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJD) before being included on the plenary agenda.

Betting on individual stocks

Also on Cespo’s agenda on Tuesday was bill 2,842/2023, by congressman Ricardo Ayres, which prohibits betting on individual actions of players during sporting events, such as penalties or fouls. The bill also establishes regulations for betting on the number of goals and match results.

The project’s rapporteur, deputy Mauricio do Vôlei, issued an opinion in favor of approving the project, but the vote in the committee was canceled due to the rapporteur’s absence at the meeting.

This project will still have to go through the CCJC and the Finance and Taxation Committee (CFT) before being voted on by all deputies in the Chamber.
